Don’t I know you?

I’ve always been pretty bad with names, mainly because I don’t make the effort to remember them. Recently though I’ve met so many people that I’ve gotten better. It’s difficult, but amazing what you can do when you really try.

Saying that, last night I got busted. Bad. A woman that I had met the week before came up and started a conversation. I knew exactly who she was, but I just couldn’t remember her name. Opting to look a little stupid now as opposed to really stupid later, I cracked. She played it off well, but I totally got the “you didn’t even remember my name” body language. So embarrassing.. The good news is I’ll never forget it again =P

Moral of the story: Just because she’s hot, doesn’t guarantee you’ll remember her name.

While I’m meeting new people in Atlanta, I’m also running into a lot of people I hadn’t seen in years. In college you run into someone and you probably knew them from some other point in college. The field of possibility is fairly narrow. Now I see someone that looks familiar and they could be from anywhere.. The toughest is seeing someone I recognize from Auburn in Atlanta because I’m seeing them out of the collegiate context. It’s amazing I know who anyone is.

At church this morning I got the “don’t I know you look” from this guy who turned out to be someone I went to high school with (John Fisher for any Pace people reading..). He moved to St. Louis after junior year and I don’t think I had seen him since. Six years later he’s back in Atlanta and we’re in church together. Crazy.

A Sore and Blistered Monday

Visited Lake Rabun on Saturday with 25-30 people from The Xrossing’s area fellowship. It was a gorgeous day, perfect for the lake. We also had a TV on the dock showing college football. I’ll just go ahead and say that if heaven isn’t anything like this, then I don’t want to go.

I got a water ski, which was very exciting because I don’t get the chance to do it often. While water skiing I tried to jump the wake, sometimes succeeding and failing miserably others. I didn’t feel to bad then, but I am so sore today…

I left the lake late in the afternoon to head back to Atlanta for the Dave Matthews show at Lakewood Amphitheatre. I was running late and ended up having to park a long way away. Not a big deal, but I was in Birkenstocks.. Walking fast for a prolonged time in those is not highly recommended. My feet are blistered today and combined with my soreness it makes me look like an old man when walking. The show was great though. They played mostly old songs, and closed with Watchtower. What else do you want?

Every time I go to a Dave show inevitably someone near me asks if I’m ok. I have no idea why, but it’s happened several times. I guess since I’m always watching Cater on the drums I have this weird look on my face that makes people think I’m not having any fun.. Call me crazy, but my level of fun isn’t determined by my blood – alcohol level. Apparently this is how everyone else does it. A girl in front of me kept checking up on me saying I needed to lighten up. I thought about trying to reason with her and explain that I was having fun, but she was so drunk I decided it would just be easier to crack a smile when she checked.

Lastly, I’ve been asked to become the Information Captain for The Xrossing. A position that requires me to manage a listserve and send out info to people. It’s a fairly large group with 80+ people last night. After the meeting, I got sheets with everyone’s name, phone number etc for the listserve. I got home, started looking at the sheets with ladies info and suddenly realized I no longer needed a little black book, cause I just got more digits than Pi! (Kidding! lol =P)

Catch up

Last weekend I went whitewater rafting down the Ocoee River. At some point in the river the guide and our boat (a little unknowing at the time) decided to try and flip the boat. That being said it was the first time I’d fallen out on the Ocoee after 4-5 trips down. I don’t really count it though because it was “on purpose”.

I saw Les Miserable last night at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. It was very similar to the production I saw in London last January. After seeing it the second time it really is still my favorite musical. The set, costumes, and vocal performances were outstanding.

I’m headed to the Lake tomorrow during the day, and I couldn’t be more excited. I rarely get to go water skiing so that will be fun. Afterwards I come back for Dave Matthews tomorrow night at Lakewood.

Softball is back in full swing. We played really well last week, but one bad inning sunk the ship, and we ended up loosing 13-10. Have a game tonight so maybe we’ll break out of the slump. As a side note, we’re the only team to not have won a game yet this season (0-3).

How about those Atlanta Thrashers! Winning their opening pre-season game. (Umm… that’s Hockey for most of you wondering what I’m talking about) =P should have a good team this year, it will be fun to watch!

Found out a friend of mine who grew up on roughly the same street as I got a job in the same building that I work in after I told him about their opening. Very excited for him since it’s his first job out of college. That could easily be the toughest job to get!

Finally, my Auburn Tigers have woken up and started to play like a football team dismantling SEC powerhouse Vanderbilt. We’re off this week; play Western Kentucky next week, and Tennessee week after. It will be interesting to see which Auburn team shows up to play Tennessee. War Eagle!

I’m on strike!

[Rant]
After Auburn lost to USC in week one I was heartbroken at how we played because I knew we were better than that. USC has a really good team, but I thought we’d bounce back against Ga Tech. After yesterday, now I’m just pissed off. I don’t want to be one of those fans that bad mouths every little thing, but there is no excuse for the way Auburn’s been playing.

Stats of the season: 2 games, 16 Sacks, 3 points, 0 touchdowns.

The Auburn – Ga Tech game is the last Auburn game I’m going to until they start playing like a real football team. Until then, I’m on strike.

Speaking of strike… Fall Softball started on Friday and I gracefully used my first plate appearance to strike out. You start with one strike (and one ball), the second was a horrible called strike, and I had to swing at the third because it was just close enough that I didn’t want to be called out looking.

Friday was also my debut as a Softball manager, and I now understand how tough it is.. I didn’t know a lot of the people beforehand, we had so many people that some had to sit out, and we’re horrible. I thought we were bad in the summer, but this is ridiculous. We’ll get better over the course of the season, but it’ll be rough for a while.

Back to the drawing board?

Well, after a minor setback in hosting my page looks a little lighter these days. Not exactly on purpose, but we’ll roll with the punches.

A lot has happened since my last update, but I don’t know if I’m going to remember it all.. here’s to trying…

The summer softball season ended.. Unfortunately we lost a huge lead in our last game, ended up blowing it, but hey it’s only a game. Fall league starts again this Friday, so we’ll have another crack at it.

I went to Whitewater. It’s a water park here in Atlanta that I hadn’t been to in years.. mainly because a kid got ecoli there, but that’s water under the bridge so to speak.. I really had a great time.. it was a lot more fun that had last remembered… I did take my sunglasses, and while holding them going down a ride, one of the lenses managed to pop out. I ended up having to wait about 30 mins at the bottom of the slide before one of the “divers” came by and went looking for it in the bottom pool. We did find it though, so it’s all good. I was worried for a minute… they’re prescription sunglasses!

I saw David Ryan Harris Play at Smith’s Olde Bar. He was amazing as usual, but the highlight of the evening was the opening act. He’s a guy named Teitur from the Faroe Islands and he blew me away. I bought his cd on the spot, and he signed it for me.

Last weekend I went to Destin, Florida for the Northpoint Singles Labor Day Retreat. What an awesome weekend. I had a great time and got to know a lot of the Northpoint people even more. The 722 band lead worship, and Erwin McManus was the speaker. The theme was “Grow, Connect, Serve”. Stopped on the way down in Auburn and bought a license tag for the front of my new car, as well as an awesome new hat. I needed both!

Let’s now take a moment of silence for Auburn’s football team after the USC game..

Thank You.

I’m trying to get tickets to the Ga Tech game this weekend, but I’ll probably end up scalping tickets at the gate like everyone else. Let me know if you have an extra ticket though!

I think that’s about all I got… I’ll try and put some pieces of the web page back, but I doubt I’ll get very far =)
