Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Rock and Roll
So many things to say.. so little attention span.
I always feel like I’m saying ‘long time no see’ when I update this thing, but the truth is that I just don’t update it regularly enough.
There’s an inversely proportional relationship between the busyness of my life and my posting habits. I’d like that to change though. Being able to write on here is such a creative outlet that I really enjoy when I make the time.
So, what’s new here? In the recent past I spent the weekend at Lake Raburn with the Xrossing Leadership. It was such a blast spending time with and getting to know people, but my body is now paying big time for my decision to strap on the skis and go kamikaze style across the wake.

In recent weeks I’ve felt a life calling pulling at my heart. I think. This will take much more seeking, thought, and prayer than this space allows, but I wanted to throw it out. A way to filter my thoughts if you will.
Ever since I can remember music has had a dramatic impact on my life. I started playing drums in the 6th grade and wanted to make it my career. After graduating college though I realized that it wouldn’t be the best use of my time, but my love of music was still there.
A year into advertising now, and I realize that my heart still longs to be involved with music. As my walk with God has grown leaps and bounds over the last four years I want to focus my time and talents to building God’s kingdom. In the end nothing else matters.
By combining my love for God and music it brings me to the Christian music scene. While there is a historical trend of cheesy ballads powering the Christian music scene, there is also an emerging rock section of Christian music that I believe has huge crossover potential to mainstream music. Bands that are sold out for Jesus, but are using culture relevance to gain mainstream success (Think: Switchfoot).
By combining Christian rock with my current industry and possible career path, it leads me to a void in the Atlanta marketplace wherein I find opportunity. This opportunity is to create a radio station that promotes this form of Christian rock.
It will not be a traditional “Christian” radio station, but I do want the station to be set aside for Jesus Christ. I want to be able to reach out through the power of music and cultural relevance to people who may never dream of stepping foot inside a church. I want to create an environment that challenges mainstream views of Christianity, and allows people to ask questions of eternal importance.
I want to show people that Jesus rocks.

(On the off chance that anyone from Carat is reading this, my current plans are to learn the buying process inside out, then transition to radio ad sales and go up from there. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere for now.)

Since I feel this calling towards Christian rock, I need to study the industry. This has lead me to find several bands that are totally incredible. I only have room for one cd on my ‘now playing’ list, but three bands that have blown me away are Jeremy Camp, Building 429, and especially Pillar. Check these guys out.
I believe that is all I have in the tank for now. I’ll try and update later in the week again. Please feel free to send thoughts; I’d be interested to hear what you have to say.
