Things That Rock
It started when my Strategic Management professor called out something I wrote in our last group paper as being a good (and correct) insight that took “intestinal fortitude” to point out. This is huge because he’s the type of professor that is brilliant, but nearly impossible to please.
It ended by seeing ZoSo, a Led Zeplin tribute band with a bunch of other MBA’s. They were really pretty good! Dude’s voice was amazing…

Time Flies
Haven’t had too many updates recently, but this week I’ve been busy with classes and team meetings for group projects. Granted school hasn’t consumed all my time; I’ve had some pretty good help forgetting all about it when I have been free.
Time flies when you’re having fun…. =)
New Photo Bars
Ok, so you’ve probably seen the new pictures on the top right of the page… (and yes, they rotate also… Thanks Amanda =) ) but now you’re wondering where they are from. Here’s the list; all pictures were taken by my camera.
Toolbar #1
State Historical Museum – Moscow, Russia (Sits on one end of Red Square)
Rocks on a beach from the west coast of New Zealand
Fraternity brother Keith Blackwood and I
The top of some mountain near the Fox Glacier in New Zealand (Mt Cook maybe? I forget…)
Toolbar #2
State Historical Museum – Moscow, Russia (Sits on one end of Red Square)
The world’s largest cannon. Sits inside the Kremlin in Moscow (to compare, see the tree behind it)
The GUM Department Store – Moscow, Russia (lines one side of Red Square)
St. Catherine’s Palace – A Czar’s residence outside of St. Petersburg Russia (and that’s only half of it….)
HTML Designer Profile – Amanda Bottoms
As I’m sure some of you have noticed, I recently changed the pictures in the banner of the site. While I will claim all of the creativity for this web page, I can claim virtually none of the html execution. In appreciation for her work, friendship, and willingness to put up with me and make this page work, I wanted to take the time to publicly thank her. (…and not in the least because she’s extorting me to write this.)
In addition to her work on this page, she’s also been a great friend over the years. I am forever grateful for the valuable lessons she has taught me, most importantly “Brown Shoes – Brown Belt”. You know, I didn’t always look this good (lol).
Speaking of not always looking good, below is the obligatory picture I was also conned into putting up. I look like a goof ball, but she loves this picture.

In The News
I can’t believe I’m posting this… it came as an email forward from my Father….
——————-
With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.
Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote “The Hokey Pokey” died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

Back to work….. =P
The Colbert Report
Mark has just recently introduced me to the Colbert Report on Comedy Central. After watching the Daily Show and constantly getting the liberal bias, I was skeptical about the Colbert Report because it would seem to me that the whole channel probably leans a little left, and I just didn’t need more of the same.
After watching about five minutes of the Colbert Report, I set up a season pass on Tivo, and I don’t ever want to miss another episode. It leans a lot more to the right, and could possibly be the funniest show on televison.
My favorite line so far had him interviewing a man who has written a book about possible inconsistancies in what Jesus was reported to have said and done in the Bible. The man claimed to be an agnostic, and Colbert interpreted him saying – ’so you’re basically an atheist without balls?’

Redeemer
Northpoint has a Strategic partnership in Athens aptly called ‘Athens Church’. Since moving up here, I’ve been twice, and it’s pretty cool. Today though, I ventured to a different church – Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
This is the first time in quite a while that I’ve been to a church outside of the Northpoint world. There were some things that I really liked about it… and some things that I had theological issues with… For example they had infant baptism, and even though the minister explained why they did it, I still felt like he completely contradicted himself. I guess after hearing Andy’s recent message on baptism, I’m a little biased. They also read a ‘confession of sin’ that was basicly a take off of the Lord’s Prayer (which we also said). It wasn’t bad, I’m just a HUGE fan of the Lord’s Prayer…. (again, thanks Andy…) =)
But there was also one reading that I loved. It’s called the Westminster Confession of Faith. See below:
The assurance of salvation we possess as true believers may be shaken, diminished, and sporadic. This may happen to us because of our own neglect in cultivating this assurance. We may fall into some special sin that wounds the conscience, and greives the Spirit. We may encounter some sudden and violent temptation. God may even turn the light of his face away from us for a season and require us to walk in the darkness. Even if this is so, God never leaves us. He has given us the gift of faith and the knowledge of Jesus’ great love for us. We have the blessing of brothers and sisters in Christ who encourage us during the difficult times. And we can find comfort in doing those things God requires of us. Above all, we have God’s Holy Spirit who is able to revive our assurance and who supports us from utter depair.
New Rules
Generally I disagree with just about everything that comes out of Bill Maher’s mouth, but I was flipping through a Men’s Health that Mark had laying around the apartment and found an ad for his new book “New Rules”. I was shocked, but I did find some funny quotes -
“If you’re surprised to find out baseball players are on steroids, YOU’RE on drugs”
“Just because your tattoo has Chinese letters in it doesn’t make you spiritual”
“Sumo Wrestling isn’t a sport – it’s an eating disorder”
“You can’t be a Washington outsider if you’re already the President”
“Cuddling is for girls – the only time a man should say ‘I need a hug’ is when he’s choking”
Ok, so I might have issue with that last one… but I liked the others =)
(actually I just saw that this particular issue of Men’s Health was for October 2005… so maybe the book isn’t so new – I still like the quotes.)
Thank you sir, may I have another…………..
Turns out the 11 month MBA program is a lot harder than I imagined. Though it’s not so much the complexity of the work that is the problem, it’s the volume. I was up till 2:30a last night, and I didn’t even get to my accounting homework. We don’t have our morning class tomorrow, so I’ll call it quits around 1:30a tonight, and then get up to do the write up for a statistics case study due tomorrow before reading a 30 page case study for a meeting with my team at 10a about our strategic management group project due Friday.
Thank goodness it’s only for a season……….
