Simply
I’ve tried to write this entry for the last couple of days, but haven’t had much luck. I’ve been tired for a long time, and I’ve finally decided to get some rest. I don’t mean tired in a sleep deprived sense (though I’ve paid for that recently too), but tired in a sense of running around keeping up appearances. There’s a lot to be said for living simply, and I’ve done a fairly poor job of that these days. It’s all too easy to get caught up in chasing things.. even easier when they seem like the right things. Eventually it wears you out though. For me it’s time to slow down and refocus on the simple things – the important things. The rest will take care of itself.
Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200
If an illegal immigrant is convicted of a violent crime in the United States, at the completion of the prison sentence, that individual should be deported immediately. No questions asked.
When was the last time *anyone* got deported from the United States?
Suggestively Questionable
Whenever someone offers me a piece of gum, or whenever someone clarifies if I want a regular coke or diet coke, I always wonder…
Is that a question or is that a suggestion?
The Trouble with New Technology
Last week I purchased a recently released, highly marketed, phone / mp3 player / internet device. I love it so far, but I’ve become very paranoid about using it in public. Mainly because people see it and want to play with it. That’s totally fine with me, it’s been fun having people play around with it. After a week of having to show someone how it works every time I take it out of my pocket though, it gets a little annoying. I’m almost afraid to use it in a bar…
Didn’t see that coming…
Country Fried Beef
Today I ate at the Varsity for lunch. Much like other things in life, I knew it was a bad idea from the start – but man was it good. I happened to notice on the menu board that the double cheeseburger is exactly $0.15 more than the regular cheeseburger. Does it bother anyone that the Varsity’s cost of an extra patty of beef is only $0.15? Me neither.
I’ve been addicted to country music for the last two weeks or so, in fact it’s the only music I’ve been able to listen to. I went through a country music phase back around 2005, but this seems different.. I think it might take hold. You know you’ve become a country music fan when you can tell the difference between Kenny Chesney songs.
Random in DC
Last Monday night I was in Washington DC on business and was fortunate enough to have dinner with a really close friend that unfortunately I don’t get to see often anymore. We were talking about life in DC, and how it’s such a transient and transitioning city. People are constantly moving in and out, so much so that moving away parties are more common than birthday parties. I got to thinking how hard that must be. You’re forced to constantly meet and befriend new people, otherwise you’ll eventually lose most of the people you know.
Our hotel was directly next to a Metro stop, but I had never used that Metro station until returning from dinner. Apparently I walked out the wrong exit. I know this because I spent the next 45 minutes searching for my hotel. To add insult to injury, at one point a minivan pulled up and a woman inside asked *me* for directions. After realizing I didn’t know the area any more than she did, I asked her for directions – and she successfully guided me to 17th Street. How pathetically lost do you have to be to receive meaningful directions from someone else who is *also* lost?
Things on my to do list…
I’ve needed to update this thing pretty badly for the last couple of days… I’ve got things to say, but unfortunately no time to say them. Hope to change that tomorrow… but for now, lack of sleep is catching up to me… goodnight =)
Not Quite Wimbledon…
Melinda and I played tennis on Saturday morning at Central Park. Unfortunately, it was the Central Park in Atlanta, not New York – but they had courts in a convenient location…
Five minutes after we started playing, a collection of homeless people (read 15-20) arrived at the park, having been freshly kicked out of another park by the police. They all congregated right next to our courts and started talking… loudly. They were discussing all kinds of things ranging from caviar to our overall tennis abilities to other things they knew absolutely nothing about. Melinda thinks caviar was a reference to the police as opposed to the delicacy, but I didn’t catch the majority of that conversation.
There were four courts in the group, and all four were being used for tennis. I never felt in any kind of danger, but I think we might look at using different courts next time… I don’t think we’re quite ready for an audience yet. At least not that kind of audience.
…And We’re Back
Though my lack of wit for the day remains…
