2013 National Championship Game – Pasadena

January 7, 2014

The 2013 Auburn Football season was one for the ages.  So many amazing games, and unlikely victories.  April and I were in Auburn for the Prayer at Jordan Hare, and two weeks later, I watched Kick Six from home screaming so loudly I’m surprised no one called the cops.  To cap off the season we played Florida State in the Rose Bowl for the National Championship.  Now, we didn’t win that game, but the trip was still a ton of fun!

I flew in the day before the game and got to see the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.  This is normally where USC plays, and the 1984 Olympics were held there.  Our game wasn’t played here, but I love seeing stadiums, so I took the chance to drive by!

The next morning, I got up and met Kevin and Amanda for breakfast at The Griddle.  This is one of my favorite breakfast places ever, and it did not disappoint!

We had a large group, and luckily we got a room in the back.  I’m guessing Amanda pulled some strings!

The Pancakes are huge, and amazing…

After meeting up with some other friends, we drove to the Hollywood sign.  Really it was just to waste time before the game, but it was fun to get a closer view!

Pregame festivities with the Auburn University Marching Band!

So, I don’t have any pictures after halftime.  Things were going well for us, but then took a hard turn south with 13 seconds left in the game.  There was an FSU fan sitting next to me, and he probably enjoyed the end of the game a little more than I did.  I was lucky enough to be in Glendale, Arizona at the game when Auburn beat Oregon for the 2010 National Championship, so I’ve been on the winning side of the game too!  But I guess you can’t win them all!

Yosemite National Park

September 6, 2013

We’ve been to so many cites across the US that we wanted to take a different approach – visiting a national park!  I’ve always wanted to see Yosemite, and it did not disappoint.  We stayed at the Sierra Mountain Lodge, in Ahwahnee, California.  I’d highly recommend staying there because the location gives you the option of entering the park from either the south or the west.  Depending on traffic or what you want to see, it makes for a great home base.  The bed and breakfast itself was very nice and comfortable – we’d definitely stay there again.

Half dome – such a huge piece of granite!

sequoia2During day two, smoke from nearby wildfires came into the valley, and you couldn’t see anything.  So, we made our way to the Mariposa groves.  These sequoia trees are huge and amazing!

April didn’t knock this one over… we promise!

On the way out of the park, we came across the wildfire.  It was massive… and closer than we would have thought!

Luckily the winds changed on day three, and the valley cleared out.  This is looking into the valley from Tunnel View.

Our trip was so successful that we’ve decided to go on an annual national park trip!
