Weekend in New York

November 16, 2014

April surprised me with a super quick trip to NYC to see Ryan Adams at Carnegie Hall!  I was floored that she did that, and was so excited because he wasn’t coming to Atlanta on this tour.  The added bonus was that we got to see him solo at Carnegie Hall.  Such an amazing an iconic venue, and an awesome chance to see something there.

Park Central

We stayed at the Park Central Hotel, which was right across the street from Carnegie Hall and a couple blocks south of Central Park.  The hotel was very well kept, close to the subway, and very reasonably priced for midtown.  I’d definitely stay there again, and recommend it to others.

After we checked into the hotel, we walked around Midtown for a while, and went to the Top of the Rock.  While I’ve been to NYC many times for work and fun over the years, that’s one of the main tourist things that I’ve actually never done!

A better shot of Central Park!

IMG_1284The sun was right in our faces looking towards the Empire State Building, so I couldn’t get a great shot of it in color…  but it looks pretty cool in black and white instead!

Waiting patiently at Carnegie Hall…

This was the only shot I took towards to stage.  The ticket Nazi’s were in full force, so I didn’t try to get anything else!

The next morning, we toured the Tenement Museum, and took in the 9/11 Memorial.  It was very well done, and absolutely massive.  It was hard not to think back about that day and remember where we were, and how we heard the news.

It’s hard to go all the way to New York, and not have some pizza!  At the recommendation of my brother, we enjoyed this pie at John’s of Bleecker Street.

As we made our way back to the hotel to collect our bags and head home, we hung out in Times Square for a little bit to enjoy the people watching!

Next time we’ll have to get to a show on Broadway!
